WEB APPLICATION

Web Application (Web Apps) is an application or a piece of software that can be run on the Internet, on our computer, or on our phone or other electronic device. It also refers to any applications or services in internet. For example, Google Documents, Windows Live Hotmail, Turbo Tax online and etc. As addition, Web browsers are software applications that allow users to retrieve data and interact with content located on web pages within a website.

These are the examples of Web Browsers:

We have to know how to use web browsers on our computer. Firstly, we must know URL (Universal Resource Locator), it is address of information on the World Wide Web. Then, use Hypertext Transport Protocol (http) or HTTP over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

INTERNET(History and the Underlying Technologies)

In this week I have learned about History and the Underlying Technologies. Do you know what is Internet?
It is the largest network in the world that connects hundreds of thousands of individual networks all over the world. The popular term for the Internet is the “information highway”. Rather than moving through geographical space, it moves your ideas and information through cyberspace – the space of electronic movement of ideas and information and No one owns it.

The underlying technologies : 7 Layers of the OSI Model
OSI (Open System Interconnection) Model consists of 7 layers:
Layer 1 (Physical): hardware
Layer 2 (Data Link): handling errors of  layer 1, flow control, synchronisation
Layer 3 (Network): switching and routing, logical paths, virtual circuits
Layer 4 (Transport): end-to-end system services, ensures complete data transfer
Layer 5 (Session): connections between applications
Layer 6 (Presentation): independence from difference in representation (syntax layer)

Layer 7 (Application): end user processes (telnet, ftp)

MICROSOFT OFFICE (power point)

In this week  I learned about Microsoft office power point, last week i have learned about Microsoft word. This program very important when you will doing presentation.Microsoft Power point is a program that allows users design what they want, especially in presentation. It almost similar to Microsoft Word, but it more specific on presentation slide, and it also can convert into video. We usually use Microsoft Power Point to present with the slides that Power point.

I want to share what I have learnt in week 7 and a way how to make a presentation in Power Point.  First of all, you have to open the Microsoft Power Point on you PCs or Laptop, then create a theme or choose it from Design Tab. There are many themes that you can choose for your presentation. After choosing theme, you can put whatever you want into you presentation slides. In Power Point, you also can Insert pictures, go to insert then click on picture or clip art or screenshots into your slides. After inserting pictures, you may edit them or design you pictures by using picture format or edit. In your slides, you also can use transitions. So, what is transitions? Transitions are motion effects that, when in Slide Show View, add movement to your slides as you advance from one slide to another. There are many transitions to choose from; each one allows you to control the speed, and even add sound

MICROSOFT OFFICE (excel)

This is week 8, in this week I have learned about Microsoft excel. I would like to share about Excel and explain what Excel is about. Firstly, Microsoft Excel is a part of Microsoft products that can allows you to store, organize and analyze info. The purpose of Excel is to solve types of problems that involve numbers and it can be spread sheets in Microsoft Excel.

I would like to give some briefly explanation on how to use Microsoft Excel according to my understanding. First of all, you have to open Microsoft Excel on your PCs or laptop, then try to make a table either timetable or work schedule.

What you have to do next is to know about Cell Basic and Cell Content, because you would be able to calculate, analyze, and organize data. Then, you can modify Columns, Rows, and Cells in your table by merger cells, insert or delete columns and rows, and also change rows height and columns width. Moreover, you may also calculate the numbers in your Excel Sheet, such Add or Sum, Multiply, and Divide.

In Excel you can create Chart, such as Pie Chart, Column Chart, Line Chart, Bar Chart, and so on. There are a lot of Charts that can help you to identify the percentages or the other.

MICROSOFT OFFICE (word)

The new topic for this session is quite important and most related to Microsoft. As a student, we need to know how to use Microsoft word because all assignment that given by the lecturer need to use this kind of software. Last week, we have learnt about Operating System (OS) as the main topic in week five and related to Windows 7 as a production from Microsoft.Nowadays, Microsoft has proved that its company is very powerful in using software, such as Microsoft Office. Instead of Microsoft Office, it includes a wide variety of programs, like Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook and etc.

The most common use of Microsoft Office are Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point instead of the other software. However, I would like to introduce to all users of Microsoft Office, what Microsoft Word is. Microsoft Word is full-featured word

   Ø  Ribbon
   Ø  Mini toolbar
   Ø  Key tips
   Ø  Quick access toolbar
   Ø  Shortcut menus

WINDOWs OS (Operating System)

What I have learned in this week was very useful in my life especially when I learnt about operating system (OS). An operating system is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common service for computer programs. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs usually require an operating system to function.
There are several types of Operating System, such as Windows, Mac OS, UNIX, and Linux. However, I would like to describe more about Windows Operating System (OS) as the new topic in week five.
Windows OS is an Operating System that was created by Microsoft. They have a version of the operating system that is designed for the home user, and a professional version, which is intended for businesses. The versions differ in the depth of networking, security, and multimedia support. Windows is proprietary software, which means that Microsoft has placed restrictions on how people can use or copy the software.
Nowadays, windows have created a new OS which is known as Windows 8. However, the previous windows 7 also has something very special from its content and aims to give a very useful windows, such as decrease Start Up and Shutdown times by 20 seconds, go to Sleep and Resume faster, use up less Memory, pop up Search results faster, reconnect to your Wireless Network more quickly, and recognize USB devices faster.

In addition, Windows 7 also saves time by not booting up various devices during Start Up unless they are currently being used. In other words, if you are not using a Bluetooth device at the moment then Windows 7 will not waste time by running that program in the background. It will wait until you have plugged it in. However performance tests of Windows 7 indicate that actual improvements vary and greatly depend on the conditions of your specific computer and the programs you are running.

In this session, I would like to share my own experience in using Windows 7 for 1 year before changing to Windows 8. Actually I am using two OS that are Windows 7 and 8. Nevertheless, Windows 7 has very unique program that allows you interact with it, because it has a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows you to visually interact with your computer’s functions in a logical, fun and easy way. For example, you can use Aero Snap feature, which it is automatically sizes or snaps two windows to fit together on the screen thus allowing you the convenience of viewing them next to each other.

NETWORK (Basics Network Concept)

This is week 4, in this week i have learned about basics networking concept. So, what is Computer Network?

Computer Network is a group of interconnected computers that two or more computers are connected via hardware or software, and able to communicate with each other. For example of a computer network: the Internet, ATM, school network, e-banking, home network, etc. Nowadays, Computer Network has three basic networking concepts, as we know three of them are shown below:-

v  Topology (the physical layout of the network)

v  Protocol (the rules in data communication)

v  Architecture (how the hardware and software are integrated to form a working).

This is the example of Computer Network Process:-

SOFTWARE (The Roles of Computer Software)

This is week 3 is quite interesting topic because I had known some about hardware. I had learned the role of computer software.I also had learnt about basic computer hardware. I could understand what computer hardware is, and then I learnt about Computer Software in the next week with most basically known as an intangible part of a computer. It is also called as a program with collections of related data in a computer. It tells what a computer supposed to carry out and how to do it.

There are some categories of software that is known as: System software that controls and maintains the operations of the computer and its devices, Application software makes users more productive and assists them with their tasks and Programming Language enables people (called programmers) to communicate instructions to a computer.

These are the types of Computer Software

HARDWARE (Introduction About Computer)

This is my first topic in computer and internet. A had learnt about hardware and it was interesting topic for me because I like to learnt about hardware which is component of computer. Firstly my lecturer taught about introduction about computer. Computer is quite popular nowadays and most people are known what is computer. Almost people are used it.
Actually our class started on second week of this trimester because have some problem, so we didn’t have class for the whole week. It was very interesting to started my first class with my lecturer, Mr. Azamuddin Abdul Rahman or well-known as Mr.Azam. Therefore, my friends and I began it with getting to know each other and introduced ourselves accordingly. Most of us have learnt the Information technology (IT) and Information Literacy (IL) in the previous trimester. So that, we can easily follow this course and ready to get a lot of knowledge regarding computer and internet field.
Studying in new course is something differently what I felt during my first-class with new lecturer as well as new classmates. However, it was a great time for me that I could learn something really useful in my life from my lecturer. He gave us a huge of knowledge that he has regarding Computer and Internet field. Furthermore, I learnt what I had learnt in IT class before, so that it was just a re-frees for me to know more about computers.

As the above picture shows that Computer is a programmable machine that carries out what it has been instructed. We recognize a Computer by looking at physical features as well as behaviours. In a Computer, there are some operation systems that always it does, such as Input, Processing, Output, Storage, and the other is Communication, and this operation is called as Information Processing Cycle. In Addition about Computer Operation, here are some definitions of Information Processing Cycle:
Ø  A computer converts DATA (from Input) to become INFORMATION ( as Output).
Ø  Processing requires a set of instruction, known as PROGRAM or SOFTWARE.
Ø  A computer holds data, instructions and information in storage for future use.

In second week, we also learnt about the same topic. In this week I have learned computer hardware basics.Learning something new in Computer and Internet is very memorable for me who like using and interacting with computer. I want to share with you about what I have been learning in Computer and Internet lecture, especially in week 2.

First of all, I want to share some information regarding the history of computers. Even though, knowing computer history is not really important for us, but a history has created an invention. Many insventors contributed to the history of computer and that a computer is complex piece of mechinenery made up of many parts, each of which can be considered a separete invention. Nevertheless, there are five generations of computer as we can see now below:-

    Ø  First Generation (1940-1950) :: Vacuum Tube
    Ø  Second Generation (1950-1964) :: Transistors
Ø  Third Generation Computers (1960s – 1971s) Integrated Circuit (IC)
Ø  Fourth Generation Computers (1971s – Present) VLSI / ULSI
Ø  Fifth Generation Computers (Now and Future)
